Leveraging halal certification to enhance the global competitiveness of Indonesian processed food products

Abstract
The global expansion of the halal industry highlights the importance of halal certification not only as a religious obligation but also as a strategic asset for enhancing market competitiveness. In Indonesia, where the majority of the population is Muslim, halal certification plays a pivotal role in ensuring product compliance with Islamic law and meeting consumer expectations for food safety, quality, and integrity. This study focuses on the Indonesian processed food sector and examines how halal certification can serve as a competitive advantage in the global market. A descriptive qualitative research approach was employed, utilizing data from official sources such as BPJPH, BPS, and other reliable databases. The results indicate that halal certification contributes to strengthening consumer trust and enabling product differentiation in competitive markets. Furthermore, the findings affirm the strategic value of halal certification in supporting Indonesia’s vision to become a global leader in the halal food industry.
